Not when you are having fun. Oh, no. We all know about that one.
It flies when one day, your toddler looks up at you and says, "poop, again." What?!? You did? You're telling me you pooped, again? And when you check, it's totally true! My understanding is that the next step is that he will tell me while he is. But, sometimes, he goes to his room to hide from me when he is and then will tell me. So, today (after much research and searching for the best price) I bought some cloth training pants. They should arrive in a week or so. I don't know if Dan and I are really ready for this. I mean, Zach has taken off his diaper and peed on the floor before, but now it's more like it could happen whenever and where ever. Yikes!
Oh, and he can suddenly say, "ear" instead of "eawa." He can pronounce an "r." When did that happen? Overnight! Really! And he happily repeats us when we ask him to pray. Nothing hard, mind you. But every night, we sit on the couch in his room and he repeats, one word at a time, "God bless Mama, Da, Tom, Aya, Grandpa, Nannie, Grandaddy, Shoo-Shoo, and Jackson. Amen." And for those of you who may or may not care....we switch up the order all the time. Tom is always third. The dogs are always last. I think you get the picture.
Here's to hoping he catches on quickly once we decide to take a weekend to introduce exactly what we mean when we ask if he needs to sit on the potty.
